World Food Program Reports from Flooding in Pakistan

Torrential rains have triggered devastating floods in Pakistan, affecting up to 20 million people. At the request of the Pakistani government, the Emergency Telecommunications Cluster – a response team of UN agencies, NGOs and stand-by partners – has mobilized to provide communications services connecting relief workers and enabliong delivery of life-saving food, medicine and supplies.

With support from the United Nations Foundation & Vodafone Foundation Technology Partnership, a team from the World Food Program (WFP) is on the scene in Multan, a city of 4.5 million people that lays on the east bank of the swollen Chenab River in the center of the country.

Listen to the audio podcast, above, from WFP emergency communications specialist Dane Novarlic, the Emergency Telecommunications Cluster Coordinator managing activities between all humanitarian groups and the Pakistan government.  In Islamabad, WFP has been operating from a temporary base since their office was destroyed in an attack last year.
